Lucha Tigre

I’ve heard about Lucha Tigre constantly since I moved to Chapel Hill in 2014. However, it wasn’t until this year that I finally decided to see what all of the hype was about.

Lucha Tigre’s food is self-described as “Latin-Asian Fusion Cuisine”.

Seems interesting enough, right? Right.

The Food

From tapas, to soups, salads and entrees, the menu has it all. I opted for an Asian dish and ordered the General Tso’s Chicken, which is a cut chicken breast flavored with a sweet and savory sauce served with broccoli over rice.

Besides the fact that chicken and broccoli is one of my favorite dishes, this dinner was absolutely delicious.

One bite in and let me tell you- I now understand why everyone raves over this place. The sauce on the chicken is like a thick glaze, but not overly sweet for those who are worried about that.

The broccoli is cooked and seasoned to perfection on top of white rice (or fried if you choose). Oh, and the portion sizes are GREAT. I’m pretty sure each dish has a whole chicken in it (leftovers for days in my case).

The one thing that could have made it even better is more broccoli- again, that could just be me and my obsession with broccoli. Other than that, no complaints.

The Atmosphere

Lucha Tigre’s modern interior with straight lines and hard edges makes it feel upscale. Beautiful white lanterns cascade from the ceiling, bringing light to the space that is predominately black and red colored.

The bar is separate from the main dining space, but provides additional seating. A mix of booths and tables make up the room and can be rearranged to accommodate large parties.

All in all, I’m definitely going back.

Oh, and if you’re into it, try one of their tequila flights.

You’re welcome.
